Daisy, Daisy

At least H.A.L. was able to take some of the bastards out before they disconnected him. We should all be so fortunate.

"We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear—fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, fear of getting down-sized or fired because of the plunging economy, fear of getting evicted for bad debts or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer."
Hunter S. Thompson—"Extreme Behavior in Aspen," February 3, 2003

I Just Wanna Give You The Creeps

Creep- Selected definitions:

Now, that's a Punk Rock word!

Pain Is My Girlfriend

First off, the Foo Fighters are fukking ROCK STARS. And I mean that in a good way. And, in addition to playing two hours of ROCK STAR ARENA ROCK, they are good guys too. They let some kid from the Make A Wish Foundation (actually Garden Of Dreams- same concept) play drums for a song and they also had an auxillary stage that jutted out about 3/4's of the way into the floor (yeah, I know they're not the first ones to do that) so the folks in the cheap seats could be up close and personal for about 6 songs.
The show was being broadcast by some Music TV station, and Mr. Asshole Hipster Blow Dried V-J was doing his live remotes right in front of me. So, if you happened to see the broadcast and you heard/saw some idiot screaming "Slayer", well that would be me.

Oh yeah, they also had some guy play a Triangle Solo.

Punk Fukking Rock.

Here's a link to our friends at One Died Simply, who have kindly posted up the Foo Fighters Feb 2, 2008 Oakland show.

But I digress, this post is about how it sucks to be getting older. Yeah, it is better than dying, but it still hurts.

My back is killing me, and I still might be hungover from 2 nights ago. And I have to be a grown up and work and shit. And I can't take my pain killers at work because than I tend to stare off into space and drool a bit. Which tends to make me friendlier to the lumpen proles. It's a vicious circle. Or something.

Anywhere, here are some tunes that fit my mood.

The cold and Foo Fighter season

Was the best career move of Dave Grohl's life when Kurt Cobain fellated a shotgun? I'd vote yes.

Grohl went from being the drummer of a band that couldn't ever be considered a good long term bet to being the leader of the Foo Fighters, a band certainly capable of "classic rockdom".
The bearded one has been able to mesh the quiet to loud dynamic of Nirvana with arena rock and has been churning out radio friendly alt rawk for over a decade already. Hey, what's not to like? Power crowds, great hooks, powerhouse drumming? This shit's in my dna.

Considering that Grohl got his start in DC hardcore, it's been one long strange trip. But good for him. He's travelled in some cool circles; jamming with folks like Queen and Lemmy and he gets extra points for playing a Dead Kennedy's tune on Mtv.

And the missus digs the heck out of the Foo Fighters, so it's all good.

We'll see em tonight, as the Foo Fighters play the big room, the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden.

Foo Fighters - Danny Says (Ramones cover)
Foo Fighters - Everlong (Acoustic -Live on Howard Stern)
Foo Fighters - Tie Your Mother Down (Live w/ Brian May and Roger Taylor)
Foo Fighters - Gas Chamber (Angry Samoans cover)

The Five Days of Hate - Day 2

You sucker. She/he doesn't really love you. Hey Romeo, you ever think to check if her heart was still beating before you cashed in? Maybe a mirror under the nose to see if she was breathing? Sucker.

The Five Days of Hate - Day 1

Screw all this Hallmark created Valentine's Day commercial hype. The real St. Valentine was a pedophile who was drawn and quartered and ripped apart by angry townspeople.

OK, that's not true. I made that up.

Who cares.

I hate the whole concept.

A true romantic such as myself doesn't need to be reminded to be nice to my loved ones on one day.

So here are a bunch of songs to reflect the holiday season. I'll be posting more up all week.

Help Fight Autism

No free music today, here's something free for you that's far more important.

Please take a look at this video (it's not long) and
forward the link to others who might watch it!

The band, Five for Fighting, is generously donating $0.40 to Autism Speaks for *each time* this video is viewed. The funding goes toward
research studies to help find a cure. When you have a moment, please
visit the link below to watch the video and pass it along to your
friends and family. They are aiming for 10,000 hits, but hopefully we
can help them to surpass this goal.

Autism is one of the most heartbreaking diagnoses that a parent can hear about their child. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe. This is a syndrome that has more than quadrupled in cases over the last 15 years.

It'll take you three minutes and it won't cost you a thing.
