And A Storm Is Threatenin'
One of the advantages AND disadvantages of being Management is that you find out the magnitude and date of when the bomb is going to be dropped. While the names of most of the soon to be extinguished may not be divulged, the knowledge of what's soon to come makes one crawl into that bottle of whiskey without much haste.
My industry is in dire straits currently (and NO, I am not in the stock market). Serious cuts will have to be made for us to survive.
Everyday brings more horrible news about companies cutting hundreds and sometimes even thousands of jobs. The most current news is that 1.2 MILLION Americans have lost their jobs in this latest (don't call it a) depression. 240,000 lost their jobs last month! And 300,000 more are projected to lose their jobs in November.

(Un)Comfortably Numb
Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness
So, is it better to feel nothing or to be affected by things to the point that it's personally damaging? Sometimes the self medicating just isn't effective.
A friend of mine explained to me that "some things are just bigger than you and it's nothing to be ashamed of". I'm not so sure about that. But it is certainly worth trying to pick curtain #2 rather than always selecting curtain #1. Maybe there's something better than canned squid behind it.

Never Go Too Far, Without A Little Big Star
Perhaps best known for supplying the theme song ("In The Street") to TV's "That 70's Show" , Big Star was a tremendously influential band that bridged the Beatles pop sensibilities with a 1970's Power Pop feel.
If every era has their building blocks, than Big Star certainly qualify as a major inspiration to 80's bands such as The Bangles, REM and The Replacements. Led by Alex Chilton and Chris Bell, Big Star never achieved the success that they deerved (due largely to record label troubles) and were only a working band for about 4 years (1971-1974). However, their original three albums: Big Star, Radio City and Third are all classics and should be sought out.
Bell died in an auto accident in 1978 and Chilton has periodically brought the band out of retirement for one-off's.
I am offering up an entire disk's worth of Big Star demo's and outtakes for your listening pleasure.

Power Pop!
Well, I'm back after a few days in Chicago on business. Lack of sleep due to long hours and a mild case of food poisoning have left it's mark.
But the heck with that!
For a special New Year's gift, I have compiled:
