No Fun
Just heard that Ron Asheton of the Stooges shuffled off this mortal coil.
Asheton was certainly responsible for a whole lot of what Punk Rock became, from the signature guitar riffs of the first two Stooges rekkids and later his bass work on the Raw Power lp.
His questionable sartorial choices aside, the man was a true original.
In tribute, here's Iggy & The Stooges performing at the Azkena Rock Festival in Spain August 31st 2006. The complete show.

I read somewhere this morning that back in his teens he used to see his heroes play and always wanted to tell them they were cool, but the band members would pass by like zombies. So, he made a promise that if he ever made it, he would always offer up a minute to anyone who wanted to talk to him. That's so cool.
Oh man, what a loss. Nobody'll ever fill them shoes again.
Still in shock. A sad loss today.
Thanks, Nazz. Enjoyed The Watchmen, too.
Just stopped in to say hi and wish ya a Happy New One. Best wishes regarding Kitty Nazz, too. Sad about losing Ron. We finally get the President we need rather than the one we deserve and we lose the best damn guitar strangler ever. Maybe there's just not enough room for all the good things in the world and one has to go to make room for another. But there's always room for more assholes, ain't there.
Nazz Junior play Halo online? We should hook him up with The Boy at the Monkey House.
Yeah, he was great, took chances musically and invented stuff that people still imitate today. Yes, he made questionable sartorial choices--few sane people would dress in Nazi regalia, as we realize (but as Asheton was known to do)--yet I doubt that he followed that belief system in any way. Do yourself a favor and play "Little Doll" repeatedly at high volume.
To me the saddest thing was that he was dead for 3 days before he was discovered.
HAnt in hand, Moment of silence
Was floored by this one... really gutted. I mean, the guy was a bad bad drugy in the 60's and 70's, so thats not gonna have helped him, but 60 does not sound old to me.
Iggy has spoken about the loss of his "best friend".
Not a good start to 2009.
