The Hoodoo Gurus are an Australian Garage Punk band, that were Alt-College favorites during the 1980's. Led by guitarist/singer Dave Faulkner, the Gurus had a number of underground hits during that period.
The band formed in 1981 in Sydney and released their first album Stoneage Romeos in 1984. This album, thanks to the infectuous single "I Want You Back" became a hit here in the USA.
Their follow up album, 1985's Mars Needs Guitars, established The Guru's as major players, even getting videos on Mtv with the songs "Like Wow, Wipe-Out" and "Bittersweet".
1987's Blow Your Cool and 1989's Magnum Cum Louder continue the solid recorded output.
The Hoodoo Guru's also were an excellent live band. I saw them a few times and was never disappointed.
In the 1990's the band continued to release albums, but their heyday was certainly the mid-80's. They broke up in 1998.
In 2004, The Hoodoo Guru's reunited and last month toured the U.S. Reports of their performances were extremely favorable.

Yay! Hoodoo Gurus!
super band. Especially Stone Age Romeos
If they had videos on MTV, they got buried on 120 Minutes 'cause, man, I don't remember 'em at all. The Hoodoos never really caught fire in America ... which isn't necessarily a bad thing but most of their success was definitely in their home land. Woulda been cool to see them play some small club or pub, great band!
I saw the Hoodoo Gurus play an Orlando nightclub the night before Thanksgiving in '89. PHENOMENAL show. Stoneage Romeos & Mars Needs Guitars grace my CD player to this day. Some of the best garage music ever. Good to get you pumped up for a surf session.
Saw them in '84 at University Of Queensland. Like WOW!
